Expert guides lead you deep into the jungle to encounter these immensely powerful, yet charmingly playful, animals on their own turf. It’s a privilege very few people have the opportunity to enjoy. Mandatory permits allow you to spend only an hour at a time with a habituated group, but it’s sure to be one of the most intense hours of your life.

They are known as the oldest inhabitants in these areas. The trail, which is a trip into the depths of the forest led by Batwa guides gives one an insight of the forest through the eyes of its first people.
The guides point out different medicinal plants and their uses, demonstrate hunting, honey harvesting and other food gathering skills. They also show off how they made fire in the past by rubbing two dry sticks against each other, making bamboo cups among other mesmerizing snippets and folklore of the ancient Twa lifestyle.
Hike into the archaic hunter-gatherer cultures of Uganda’s Twa forest people on this exciting Batwa Cultural Trail in Mgahinga National Park. The Batwa Trail leads from the base of Muhuvura Cave into the jungle museum showcasing a pygmy forest tribe that used to live in the rainforest Park. These tribesmen were hunter-gatherers and fierce warriors who depended on the forest for shelter, food and medicine. In creating the Mgahinga National Park, they were forced out of the park and rehabilitated in the villages that surround the park.

Its contorted shore encircles 29 islands, surrounded by steep terraced hillsides.
