We were asked to create a safe, empowering space for Muslim women to learn to surf. The key was privacy and cultural sensitivity without compromising the fun. 'We want to surf, we want to shout, and we want to feel completely free.' Finding a partner in Taghazout who understood the nuance of a female-only space was critical.
The Goal
To empower women through surfing and travel in a supportive environment.
The Challenge
Designing a culturally sensitive, women-only adventure that balances activity (surfing) with relaxation and cultural immersion.
Specific Needs
Female instructors, private riad accommodation, and transport for excursions.
Crafting the Experience
We partnered with a surf house owned by locals who understood the cultural requirements implicitly. We reserved the entire rooftop terrace for our yoga sessions to ensure privacy. Crucially, we hired exclusively female surf instructors, allowing the women to wear burkinis or comfortable swimwear without worry. We balanced the physical activity with visits to local women's cooperatives, connecting our group with the local female artisans of Morocco.
Precision Logistics
We worked hand-in-hand with The Wanderlust Women as their hidden logistics engine, vetting every accommodation and activity to ensure strict privacy standards. We coordinated private transport and female guides, handling all the cultural nuances so the guests could focus on the surf and sisterhood.
