Science in the Wild
Data collection is key to protection. We work with local researchers to track whale shark movements and health. Your photos of their spot patterns act as fingerprints, allowing us to identify and monitor specific individuals over years.

The Journey
Arrival & Integration
Day 1Arrive on Mafia Island. Transfer to Bustani Hotel, our exclusive base. Evening welcome dinner and expedition briefing.
Whale Sharks & Science
Day 2-4Morning boat excursions to swim with whale sharks. Collect ID data (spot patterns). Afternoon conservation workshops and coral monitoring.
Island Culture
Day 5Visit Chole Island ruins. Meet the 'Flying Foxes' (giant fruit bats). Traditional lunch with the local women's cooperative.
Deep Dive Conservation
Day 6-8Continued data collection swims to maximize specific individual identification. Beach clean-ups. 'Science in the Wild' talks with researchers.
Celebration
Day 9Morning leisure or final swim. Sunset Dhow cruise. Farewell beach BBQ with traditional drumming and dance under the stars.
Departure
Day 10Final breakfast. Transfers to airport for your onward journey.

Most guests fly internationally into Dar es Salaam (DAR) and take a short domestic flight (30 mins) to Mafia Island. Airport transfers on Mafia Island are included.
